Watering Guidelines |
| For the 1st year -- Water the tree every 3-7 days unless there has been a rainfall of 1" or more during that time period. Ten to 15 gallons of water are required for each watering. * |
| The 2nd year -- Water the tree every 10-14 days unless there has bee 1" or more of rainfall during that period. Twenty gallons of water are required for each watering. * |
| The 3rd year -- The tree should be watered every 14 to 18 days unless there has been a rainfall of 1" or more during that period. The tree will require 25 gallons of water each time it is watered. * |
| * Always
examine the soil moisture beneath the mulch before
watering. If the soil is damp 4" below the surface,
the soil is probably moist enough to skip that watering. |
Mulching Guidelines |
| A 4" layer of mulch will lower the soil temperature and conserve moisture. Keep mulch 4" away from the trunk. Young trees need a 4 to 5' diameter circle of mulch. In dry spells, water the entire area a little beyond the drip line (the circumference area of the tree branches and leaves). Small-sized pine bark mulch, available in local nurseries, is highly recommended. |
